SANT BOI RECEIVES THE FIRST “FLAG OF TOW=
NS
AND CITIES FOR ALL” IN SPAIN=

7th of June took place in Sant Boi’s City Hall (Barcelona, Spain) the ceremony to de=
liver
the “Flag
of Towns and Cities for All”. The Design for All Foundation
awards this flag to the local governments who commit to take part in th=
eir
environments (public space, transports, buildings, services) to improve=
the
life quality of their citizens and visitors.
The “Flag of Towns and Cities for All” (link
to the pdf) is an international project the Foundation started last
year, in cooperation with the Portuguese
Federation of Municipalities and the Portuguese Association for the Urb=
an
Planning
Mr. Francesc Aragall, Design for All Foundation’s presiden=
t,
delivered to the acting mayoress, Montserrat Gibert, the first “F=
lag
of Towns and Cities for All” to be given in Spain.
For many years, Sant Boi has been at the
forefront with initiatives that took into account accessibility and
integration of people in risk of exclusion, by passing at the plenary of
November 2005 the Transversal Municipal Program for people with
disabilities. This program aims to be a tool for the networking to
guarantee the improvement of accessibility in all the actions and munic=
ipal
policies and to advance towards full equality of opportunity.
The commitment that made Sant Boi’s city council deserve t=
his
award is: to establish the accessibility and Design for All criteria in=
the
planning of municipal public happenings to promote the participation of=
all
the population and to guarantee accessibility in every citizen attention
office (community centres, People Attention Municipal Office,
Consumer’s Information Municipal Office, sports centres...)<=

On the=
other
hand, and to continue their innovative course, the city council has dec=
ided
to count on OFIPRIX in order to=
get
them involved in the processes to improve Design for All in private
organizations.
