Design for All for Administrations | Planning the City for All | How to achieve being a City for All | Flag of Towns and Cities for All
Various reasons exist why administrations initiate and continue initiating Design for All:
1. Occidental populations are rapidly ageing and this supposes that,
either governments must create a great number of assistance services,
or must ensure that older people can live independently and longer, that
is to say, that transport, businesses, official buildings, the means of
communication, consumer products and housing can be used by people that
currently have problems interacting with them.
2. The possibility of creating special products for every sector of the
affected population (furniture and domestic appliances for older people,
special technical help for different activities, etc.) apart from being
discriminatory, it means high costs.
3. Experience has shown us that products or services have been developed,
with people with disabilities in mind (remote controls, low-floor buses,
etc), their use has become more widespread and has meant them being more
useful and comfortable for the majority of the population.
4. Applying Design for All means a generation of products that satisfy
the user more during longer periods and, therefore, lengthening product
life and reducing energy costs and the production of waste, strengthening
its ecological policies.
As a result, Administrations must achieve that everyone, regardless of gender, capabilities, race, or beliefs can have employment equal opportunities, health, products and services and therefore these, should be apt to be used for every individual, regardless of their abilities, in short, building a City for All.
